Three Days a Week
... on peonies, June, and a new habit
Hello sweet mama,
The peonies are finally blooming in our yard — a couple weeks later than last year, a week later than my neighbors this year, and a whole month later than in Indiana. I know because we were in Indiana in May and they were everywhere. I get to enjoy them twice this year!
Our June is blooming into a wonderful rhythm of school (yes, school — April and May held very little so we’re picking it back up), exercise, baseball, outdoor time, and plenty of free time for all.
I’ve been listening to Tranquility by Tuesday and I’m loving it. It’s nine principles/habits to follow to not only use your time well, but enjoy the time you’re using. Some of them I already do, some I have never heard.
One I had heard of, but hadn’t really applied was that three times a week equals a habit. If you’re a long time follower, you may remember me mentioning that in the past few years, it’s been harder and harder for me to make a habit of writing and working on All These Things. This week as I listened to the part about this habit, I was inspired to find just 30 minutes three times a week to just write. It doesn’t have to be for the podcast, but it could be. The goal was to just sit down and write.
My struggle has been to find a chunk of a few hours, which is helpful to have to accomplish writing, editing, and publishing. I prefer this way but it kept me from doing any of it in pockets of time. Breaking out of this all-or-nothing thinking might just be the key for me in this stage of life.
Because even though things are in good rhythms and I’m focused on what needs to happen when, these Tuesday afternoons — my original slot for ATT — continue to have more important needs pop up. But I can do half an hour today. And I managed half an hour on Sunday morning. Now to just find one more time and it’s a habit!
Here’s a Quote…
This sparked some writing last week that I hope to create into an episode. It’s really stuck with me.
The cross means crucifixion, death, and resurrection… What should we crucify? We should crucify the desire to be perfect without patiently growing in the Lord.
